Who is Waddell Running Lady and why is she writing a blog?

Good question!

I'm Michelle Schroff. Mom of 6, wife, follower of Christ, major coffee addict and two time (soon to be 3!) marathoner. I'm 47 and my first grandbaby is due in 13 weeks. Woohoo!!

My story needs to be told.

Even if it only helps one person.

Plus, sometimes I feel like I will burst at the seams if I don't get it all out there, you know?

My story really starts back in 1996 after my second son was born. My oldest son was 3 months old when I found out I was expecting again. I'll be honest...I was a little embarrassed about what my friends and family would think. But on the other hand, I was a married woman and we wanted kids, so...

Soon I was a mom of 2. While I had almost gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight with my first baby, I found it was much harder the second time around. I was nursing and expecting at the same time and I was tired...so tired! I had put on about 60 extra pounds and it was NOT all baby! He weighed in at 10 pounds and 1 ounce and the rest of the weight clung to my hips, backside and belly like a long lost buddy.

I was living my best life with 2 busy baby boys. Life was really, really good. Until I saw myself in family photos...or tried to wear clothes that used to fit.

I immediately started the Clinic 30 diet...ever heard of it? You eat 4 carbs, 3 meats, 2 veggies, 2 fruits, and 1 fat per day. I was miserable. I hated every second of eating like that and I cheated anywhere I could. My four carbs were four slices of low fat coffeecake some days! But I started walking around my neighborhood and lost 70ish pounds. I looked great. And guess what? I was expecting again almost immediately afterwards.

I was thrilled, though! I wanted another baby desperately and our first daughter was born in July 1998. History repeated itself and I gained a boatload of weight with her, too. She was only a few months old when I tried to desperately lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks on the Mayo Clinic Diet. I needed to fit into a beautiful, dark green velvet dress for a Couples Dinner at church. So I ate eggs and grapefruit for breakfast, tomatoes and some other drivel for lunch...I think I might have lasted a day and a half that time. I also tried the Cabbage soup diet to quickly drop pounds, but it tasted so gross that I couldn't keep that up, either. I ended up squeezing into the dress somehow, but I still had more weight to lose. Enter round two of the Clinic 30 Diet! I started walking my neighborhood again and this time around the going was a bit slower. But I did end up losing all of the baby weight, plus a little more.

My weight loss never lasted long, though. After I reached my goal weight, I became pregnant with baby number 4. And the saga continues...

To be continued....

My First Marathon!
